Where were you born and (if different) where did you grow up? Born in Plattsburgh, NY; grew up in Swanton, VT

Current residence and marital status/family: S. Burlington; married (Christina teaches music at S. Burlington HS);
two children (Max and Katya)

Education: BM from UMass Amherst; MM and Artist Diploma from Yale School of Music; DMA and
Performer’s Certificate from Eastman School of Music

When did you start playing with the VSO? When I was 18, at a concert of “Pictures at an Exhibition”
(with NO rehearsal) in Montpelier.

Other current jobs besides VSO: Professor in the Department of Music and Dance at the University of
Vermont.

How did you get started in music? I started at a young age with piano, which I studied for a few years.
In junior high, the high school music teacher called my parents and told them I should be playing an instrument.
No one said “no” to that teacher. I came close, since I decided to play percussion…..
