Vermont Symphony Orchestra

Takatsuga Hagiwara

Where were you born and (if different) where did you grow up? Asahikawa, Hokkaido (Japan)

Current residence and marital status/family: Watertown, MA; married

Education: BA from Showa College of Music; GPD from Boston Conservatory; MM from Boston University

When did you start playing with the VSO? 2005

Other current jobs besides VSO: Freelancer around Boston; substitute with Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Albany Symphony, Portland Symphony, etc….

Favorite composer: J.S.Bach and many more

Hobbies: cooking for friends

How did you get started in music? I took piano lessons at four years old.

Secret ambition: To be a tuba soloist (since high school). But actually my ambition has become (partially) true because the VSO has featured me as a soloist twice! (Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto and Rimsky-Korsakov Flight of the Bumblebee)

People would be surprised to know that: I am a tuba player, because physically I don’t look like one!
