VSO To Host Masterclass With Stephen Hough for Vermont Piano Students

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce a masterclass with renowned pianist Stephen Hough as part of his upcoming residency in Burlington.

On Saturday March 26, 2022, Hough performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 at the Flynn, conducted by VSO Music Director candidate Tania Miller. The concert also includes Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1 and Yatra by Sri Lankan/Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne. A link to our concert webpage can be found here; a link to Mr. Hough’s webpage can be found here.

The masterclass will take place on Friday, March 25, 2022, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the UVM Recital Hall in partnership with the UVM Lane Series. The masterclass is open and free to the public, but requires pre-booking via Eventbrite. There is a limit of 100 general seating tickets available which will be available to book at this link.

We are calling all talented and aspiring Vermont-based piano students up to and including 22 years of age who can respond to Mr. Hough’s guidance and instruction in a public setting.

  • Four finalists will be selected to take part in the masterclass.  Each of the four finalists will have approximately 15-20 minutes to work with Mr. Hough on the piece of music they’ve submitted with this application.
  • Each finalist will receive up to 4 complimentary tickets to the VSO Classical Series Concert on March 26, 2022.
  • Housing arrangements can be made if required for finalists outside of the Burlington area.

Finalists will be decided by a jury selected by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and announced publicly and informed in writing by Monday, February 21, 2022.
