SUMMARY:Jukebox: Porch Songs - Americana Roots - Burlington
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS FOR BURLINGTON ARE SOLD OUT. There are still tickets for the April 19 Barre concert available here.  \nAs spring arrives\, we bring you a special\, intimate Jukebox program that invites listeners onto the proverbial porch—where music flows freely\, stories are shared\, and a sense of place is felt in every note. Porch Songs honors the legacy of American folk traditions and the communal spirit that sustains them.   \nFeaturing Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon’s exploration of her Southern roots in Southern Harmony\, the Appalachian-infused stylings of fiddler and composer Mark O’Connor and brand new arrangements of music by bluegrass legend Matt Flinner alongside many more. This program celebrates the magical place where classical and folk traditions meet.  \nThis Jukebox tour will be accompanied by an interactive audio and visual display of Vermont folk heritage\, steeped in song selections from the Helen Hartness Flanders Ballad Collection at Middlebury College. We are also grateful for the assistance of the Henry Sheldon Museum and the Vermont Folklife Center. These displays are curated by Lyn Lauffer. \nBrooke Quiggins-Saulnier and Joana Genova\, violin; Stefanie Taylor\, viola; and John Dunlop\, cello. Hosted and curated by Matt LaRocca. \nVSO thanks the generosity of our Burlington Jukebox sponsors Northfield Savings Bank\, Eleanor Long\, Robert Kenny & Pat Suozzi\, Vermont Humanities\, and 802 Credit Union. \n \n                        \n  \n

SUMMARY:Jukebox: Strength and Hope - Burlington
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \nTHIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT \nMusic as strength. Music as hope. Music as change.  \nThroughout history\, composers have turned to music in the face of hardship—to find light in darkness\, to hold fast to truth\, to rise up\, and to offer comfort\, courage\, and strength. In this Jukebox\, we look to those composers who have created music for hope\, resistance\, and change—music composed in prison camps\, music that calls out injustice\, music that shouts dissent\, music that is charged with the need to speak out and be heard. In these challenging times\, this special concert brings us together to offer a sense of optimism borne of music and community. \nBrooke Quiggins-Saulnier and Joana Genova\, violin; Stefanie Taylor\, viola; and John Dunlop\, cello. Hosted and curated by Matt LaRocca. \n  \nPROGRAM \nRussell Peck – Don’t Tread on Me \nLudwig van Beethoven – String Quartet in C minor\, Op. 18\, No. 4 – Movement I \nEthel Smyth – String Quartet in E minor \nGideon Klein – Trio \nDmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 8 in C minor\, Op. 110 \nFrank Horvat – The Thailand HRDs \nMilad Yousufi – Refugee \nZoltan Almashi – Mariupol \nWoody Guthrie – This Land is Your Land \nThis concert also provides a spotlight for Mercy Connections\, a local non-profit that supports adults as they pursue English language learning; justice\, mentoring\, and reentry guidance; tutoring; and citizenship application support. Learn more at the concert where Mercy Connection staff members can share their story! \nVSO thanks the generosity of our Burlington Jukebox sponsors Northfield Savings Bank\, Eleanor Long\, and Bob Kenny & Pat Suozzi.
