DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets \nSeptember 24 in Castleton\, Grammy Award-winning tabla player Sandeep Das and renowned composer and sitarist Rajib Karmakar come together for a free instrument demonstration and discussion on Indian music\, history\, and performance. Das and Karmakar are headlining the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s “East Meets West” concert at The Paramount Theatre in Rutland on September 27\, and this workshop provides a rare opportunity to learn more about and hear from two internationally recognized masters of the sitar and tabla drums. \nThis event is hosted co-hosted by Vermont State University Castleton\, and is free of charge. VSO also welcomes guest sitarist Rajib Karmakar to start the concert with the first movement of pioneering composer Ravi Shankar’s Symphony. Das follows with Sri Lankan/Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne’s brilliant Tabla Concerto\, a three movement exploration of baroque\, electronica\, folk\, and romantic styles. The concert completes its East/West connection with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition\, a hugely popular\, sweeping work masterfully orchestrated by Maurice Ravel.
