SUMMARY:Whispers from the Past
DESCRIPTION:Whispers from the Past interweaves music composed during the Holocaust with ancestral Jewish melodies. Vermont Symphony Orchestra members Laura Markowitz\, Ana Ruesink\, and John Dunlop perform as Temple Trio\, a string ensemble consisting of violin\, viola\, and cello\, in this program that transcends a time of sorrow with the human desire for hope.  \nThese free concerts take place leading up to Yom Hashoah\, or Day of Remembrance (April 17/18)\, to commemorate victims of the Holocaust. Besides music of composers such as Viktor Ullmann\, Gideon Klein\, and Hans Krasa who perished in the camps\, there are works by two composers who lived through the Holocaust as well as a collection of Yiddish songs. \nBerta Frank hosts Whispers of the Past. \nSaturday April 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Havurah House in Middlebury \nSunday April 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe \nMonday April 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Temple Sinai in South Burlington  \nIn addition\, Temple Trio performs in the series\, “Music of Another World” at the South Burlington Library on March 22.  \nAll concerts are supported by various local congregations\, the VSO and patrons. All events are free; no advance registration is required.
