SUMMARY:David M. Wilson Memorial Farmers' Night Concert
DESCRIPTION:Ticketing/registration is not required for this open-to-the-public performance. \n\n\nThe VSO is one of many Vermont arts organizations that celebrates our state by providing a free concert for the Vermont General Assembly’s annual Farmers Night series. The series is a longstanding State House tradition dating back over 100 years to a time when lawmakers entertained themselves in the House Chamber mid-week while away from home. \nVSO’s offering for this free 2024 Valentine’s Day concert features a string chamber orchestra and the VSO Chorus for an evening of enchanting music by Bach\, Haydn\, and more. As an annual tradition\, we’ll also feature the premiere of a new work composed by a Music-COMP student: Callum Robechek. This concert is conducted by José-Daniel Flores Caraballo. \nProgram \nW. A. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE \nJoin us for a special performance with Dionne Warwick featuring Vermont Symphony Orchestra String Ensemble. \nDionne Warwick is a five-time Grammy Award-winning music legend who has earned more than 75 charted hit songs and sold over 100 million records. She recorded 18 consecutive Top 100 singles (“Don’t Make Me Over\,” Walk on By\,” “Say a Little Prayer\,” “A House is Not a Home\,” “Alfie\,” “Heartbreaker\,” “Déjà Vu\,” among countless others). She received her first Grammy in 1968 for “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?” Ms. Warwick became the first African-American solo female artist of her generation to win the prestigious award for Best Contemporary Female Vocalist Performance. \nIn 1985\, she participated in the recording of “That’s What Friends Are For\,” which became a number-one hit worldwide and raised awareness and major funds for AIDS research\, which she continues to support\, among other causes such as The Starlight Foundation\, children’s hospitals\, world hunger\, disaster relief\, and music education for which she has been honored and has raised millions of dollars. Ms. Warwick also participated in the all-star charity single\, “We Are the World” and performed at “Live Aid.” \nMs. Warwick was also inducted into The Grammy Museum where a special 50th Anniversary career exhibit was unveiled and is a 2019 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Ms. Warwick released a star-studded duets album entitled\, Feels So Good\, featuring collaborations with some of today’s greatest artists. This concert is hosted and conducted by Matt LaRocca\, and is presented in partnership with the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival. \n\n\nBorn Under Punches: Tyler is trapped in his father’s dream of being a boxing champion\, but he’s put up with it for too long. A compact portrait of internal chaos and the pursuit of freedom\, Born Under Punches is about finding yourself in the prison of other peoples’ expectations and breaking out. \nThe Social Chameleon: Cosmo the Chameleon doesn’t fit in with the other animals. No matter how hard he tries\, he just can’t seem to find his place in the jungle. Then\, everything changes when he meets another chameleon who shows him how to live by his own true colors.
