SUMMARY:Jukebox: Porch Songs - Americana Roots - Barre
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \nAs spring arrives\, we bring you a special\, intimate Jukebox string quartet program that invites listeners onto the proverbial porch—where music flows freely\, stories are shared\, and a sense of place is felt in every note. Porch Songs honors the legacy of American folk traditions and the communal spirit that sustains them.   \nFeaturing Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon’s exploration of her Southern roots in Southern Harmony\, the Appalachian-infused stylings of fiddler and composer Mark O’Connor and brand new arrangements of music by bluegrass legend Matt Flinner alongside many more. This program celebrates the magical place where classical and folk traditions meet.  \nThis Jukebox tour will be accompanied by an interactive audio and visual display of Vermont folk heritage\, steeped in song selections from the Helen Hartness Flanders Ballad Collection at Middlebury College. We are also grateful for the assistance of the Henry Sheldon Museum and the Vermont Folklife Center. These displays are curated by Lyn Lauffer. \nBrooke Quiggins-Saulnier and Joana Genova\, violin; Stefanie Taylor\, viola; and John Dunlop\, cello. Hosted and curated by Matt LaRocca. \nVSO thanks the generosity of our Barre Jukebox sponsors Northfield Savings Bank\, Vermont Humanities\, and Bill Herbst.

SUMMARY:VSO Made in Vermont with Kat Wright - South Burlington
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE \n\n\nCurated and conducted by Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Artistic Advisor and Project Conductor Matt LaRocca\, the 2023 Made in Vermont series highlights a guest artist from our state’s vibrant indie\, folk\, and rock scene. The VSO’s chamber orchestra performs musical favorites by Henry Purcell and Manuel De Falla and welcomes a special guest to the stage: Vermont’s own sensational soul singer Kat Wright. The program also features new works by two Vermont composers\, Kyle Saulnier and Erik Nielsen. Saulnier is a unique and innovative composer whose style fuses modern orchestral techniques with jazz and industrial rock\, and Nielsen’s new piece for string orchestra is a tribute to Pete Sutherland\, a friend and mentor as well as a Vermont legend. \n“Wright has that special balance of power and grace in her voice that can shimmer and float to the top…” – Red Line Roots \nWhile you’ll still hear the Bonnie Raitt and Amy Winehouse influences in her music\, echoes of Brandi Carlisle and Norah Jones are newly present in Kat’s performances\, as well.
