Preceded at 2:00 pm by Musically Speaking, a free pre-concert discussion that provides entertaining insight into the program.

VSO Music Director Jaime Laredo conducts a program featuring a rare Vermont appearance from international violin superstar Leila Josefowicz performing Alban Berg’s raucous Violin Concerto. The program opens with Richard Wagner’s luscious, yearning Prelude und Liebestod, comprised of themes from the beginning and end of his epic four-hour opera Tristan and Isolde. The program closes with Felix Mendelssohn’s fifth symphony, given the name “Reformation Symphony” by Mendelssohn’s sister Fanny because it was written to honor a key event of the Protestant Reformation.
