About the Program
The VSO Jukebox Quartet (violinists Letitia Quante and Brooke Quiggins, violist Stefanie Taylor, and cellist John Dunlop) embarks on a statewide tour in November, travelling to a variety of venues including ArtsRiot in Burlington, Zenbarn in Waterbury, Alexander Twilight Theater at NVU Lyndon, Walker Farm at Weston Playhouse, Weston and Artistree Community Arts Center in South Pomfret. The quartet is joined by Vermont songstress and prolific folk composer Moira Smiley for this series of evening concerts of classical, folk, and rock repertoire, curated by Matt LaRocca.
ABOUT MOIRA SMILEY
Singer, composer, and song-collector Moira Smiley has sung in arenas, cathedrals, kitchens, back porches, sound stages, and on glaciers. She’s performed with the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Tune-Yards, Tim O’Brien, Eric Whitacre, Los Angeles Master Chorale, New World Symphony, Solas, and The Lyris String Quartet. Moira’s original compositions, choral arrangements, and folk music are being sung by millions of voices around the world today.
A vocal polyglot, Smiley’s voice and compositions have been featured in TED conferences, on BBC Radio and TV, NPR, ABC Australia, and live at countless venues from Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall to Walt Disney Concert Hall and Royal Festival Hall. When she’s not leading her own vocal group, moira smiley & VOCO, Moira tours and records with pop artist, Tune-Yards; Irish super-group, SOLAS; The Lomax and Folklife Projects; and Billy Childs’ Grammy Award winning “Laura Nyro Re-Imagined”. Moira premiered her solo album ‘Unzip The Horizon’ at the prestigious Savannah Music Festival in 2018, and published its companion choral Songbook in 2019. In February, 2021 she released the vocal album, In Our Voices.
