VSO VALENTINES

This initiative is now closed. Thank you to the more than 150 people who signed up for a VSO Valentine!

VSO Oboe Valentine by Nancy Dimock

You may have played the oboe in your high school band, or fell in love with the sound of it listening to Ravel or watching Ennio Morricone’s film The Mission. Whatever your introduction, the oboe is one of the orchestra’s most warm, melodic instruments. VSO Principal Oboist Nancy Dimock is ready to serenade your Valentine with one of three romantic pieces of music, and to deliver a message to your sweetie (and if you want a bit of Spanish thrown in, Nancy speaks that, too!).

Choice of one of three musical selections:

  • Francois Devienne’s Pastorale from Sonata No. 3
  • Joseph-Hector Fiocco’s Arioso
  • Georg Philipp Telemann’s Andante Amabile from Sonata in a minor

VSO Violin Valentine by Brooke Quiggins

There’s nothing like the achingly sweet sound of strings to evoke everything from love and passion to serenity and peace.  As VSO’s Assistant Principal Second Violin and a member of the Jukebox String Quartet, Brooke’s mastery of violin shines in these three pieces. Choose one for her to play for your sweetheart along with your valentine message.

Choice of one of three musical selections:

  • Antonio Vivaldi’s Largo from “Winter”
  • Fritz Kreisler’s Liebesleid
  • Edward Elgar’s Salut D’Amour

VSO Trombone Valentine by Matt Wright

Treat your valentine to a brass salute by VSO Principal Trombonist Matt Wright! Schumann’s desire to communicate “purely in music” to his young wife was the impetus for his lovely Romance. Ravel’s Bolero will have you dancing across the room with your arms around your Valentine, or if you prefer some Americana, Matt can serenade your sweetie with a tribute to the home team! Choose your music to match Matt’s personal message to your valentine.

Choice of one of three musical selections:

  • Robert Schumann’s Romance
  • Albert von Tilzer’s Take Me Out to the Ballgame
  • Maurice Ravel’s Bolero
