Mission Statement
The Vermont Symphony Orchestra Association, Inc., a state-supported non-profit institution founded in 1936, exists for the purpose of fostering and encouraging the appreciation of music in all its various forms, with emphasis on orchestral, choral and chamber music. It seeks to raise the common standard of musical education and enjoyment, and to provide, at moderate cost, quality performances for a broad and diverse public throughout the State of Vermont.

The VSO performs 50 concerts in more than 20 communities across Vermont. For a complete schedule, click here

FAQ: Can I get a refund if I can’t use my tickets?
All ticket sales are final and nonrefundable. Subscribers can easily exchange subscription tickets between Friday and Saturday night within the same weekend for the most comparable seat. Subscribers can also donate tickets they can’t use back to the VSO for resale. We will acknowledge your gift by letter, just like a cash contribution. If you wish to donate tickets back, please call the VSO office by 5 p.m. on the day before the performance.

FAQ: Who is the music director of the VSO?
Jaime Laredo was named Music Director of the VSO in 1999. He oversees all artistic programming and planning in addition to conducting and performing with the orchestra.

FAQ: How do I become a VSO member and what are the benefits?
Membership is available with a gift of $50 or more. Benefits of membership include the VSO’s quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance to special events and concerts.

FAQ: How can I help out at concerts?
There are many volunteer opportunities available at both at VSO concerts and behind the scenes from ushering to helping out in the office to providing hospitality to musicians. For more information, please contact the VSO Office Manager, Evan Wisell, at 1-800-VSO-9293, ext. 10.

FAQ: Is the VSO a professional orchestra?
The VSO is a professional orchestra. About half the musicians are from Vermont. The others come from all over northern New England. The VSO is the oldest state-supported orchestra in the United States.

FAQ: Does the VSO have any CDs available?
The VSO does have a CD. Kate Tamarkin’s final concerts as Music Director were recorded March 19 and 20, 1999 at the Flynn Center. The CDs were made to support the VSO’s education programs and are available with a donation of $502 (payable over two years) to the Education Fund.

FAQ: Can I hire the VSO to play at my party or wedding?
Yes, the VSO has ensembles available in a variety of sizes and instrumentation.

FAQ: How can I get a VSO souvenir?
VSO Merchandise is often available at our touring concerts, but rarely available at the Flynn Center performances. If you would like to order some VSO souvenirs or merchandise, please contact VSO Sales and Marketing Director, Patrick Keogh, at 1-800-VSO-9293, ext. 11.
