After American composer John Corigliano takes us on a tour of the sensual world of the imagination, we visit Czechoslovakia. Bulgarian-born violinist Bella Hristova (a Jaime Laredo protégé), takes a brief break from winning awards to make her VSO debut in Dvorak’s surpassingly beautiful Violin Concerto. The next stop on our itinerary is Scotland, where Felix Mendelssohn was inspired (by a trip which included a bagpipe competition) to write his enduringly popular third symphony.
